A parking lot that used to light and now has dark poles is a repair, not a new photometric design. Property managers in Kearny Mesa, Miramar, Otay Mesa, and Escondido call this after a driver fails, a photocell sticks, or a circuit opens. Bright Pro Electric matches you with a licensed electrician. We do not own a bucket truck.

An independent electrician inspecting a dark parking-lot pole at dusk in San Diego

A first-time layout, new poles, and plan-check photometrics sit on parking lot lighting installation. Indoor cans sit on lighting fixture repair. This page is the existing lot.

One pole, one row, or the whole lot

One dark head with neighbors on is that fixture, that driver, or that fuse at the pole base. A whole row dark is a circuit, a contactor, or a time clock. The whole lot dark with house power still on is the lighting contactor, the photocell, or the lighting panel.

Do not assume every dark LED needs a new head. Drivers fail. Photocells stick on after a marine layer in Mission Valley and stay on all day, or stick off after a Santa Ana and never come on. A time clock that was never reset after a power blip looks like a lighting failure.

This page does not publish foot-candle minimums, municipal lighting ordinances, or rebate amounts. Those sit with the city and with SDG&E programs. Ask those offices for the current rule.

Access is the job constraint. A 20-foot pole in a Kearny Mesa lot is not a ladder from a sedan. The electrician’s written scope should say who provides the lift.

Permits and like-for-like heads

Like-for-like driver or head replacement on the same pole can be a different permit question than a new circuit or a relocated pole. Confirm with the office for the address. City of San Diego Development Services, County PDS for unincorporated parcels, and each city’s building department review commercial electrical work on their own schedules.

If the electrician adds a new 15- to 45-amp circuit in the City of San Diego, the published Simple permit for the first five of those circuits is $176.57. That is not the repair. Unincorporated County electrical-only is $392 on PDS-613 effective 07/10/2026.

This page does not publish a per-pole repair price. No verified San Diego figure sits in the claims file.

Check the contractor on the CSLB license lookup. C-10 is the electrical classification. Commercial electrical is the matching service page.

Frequently asked questions

Why is one row of parking lights out?

A circuit, a contactor, or a failed splice in the pull box is the usual category. One dead driver does not take a whole row unless they were daisy-chained that way. Have it metered.

Can we just swap LED heads without a permit?

Like-for-like at the same pole can be exempt under a local code. Changing wattage class, controls, or adding a circuit often needs review. Ask the building department. Do not treat a weekend swap as a rule.

The lights will not turn off at sunrise.

Photocell, time clock, or a contactor stuck closed. That is a repair, not a new design.
