Outlets & Switches

Outlet, switch, and GFCI installation in San Diego.

An outlet where there isn't one, a bathroom or kitchen GFCI that won't reset, or a dimmer that hums. The pros we send do clean, code-correct outlet and switch work. Patches and small drywall openings only when there's no other route.

When this is the right call

  • You need an outlet where one doesn't exist (kitchen, garage, bathroom)
  • GFCI in the bathroom or kitchen won't reset
  • Two-prong outlets you want grounded for sensitive electronics
  • Tripping a breaker every time you use the microwave
  • New range, dryer, or hot tub needs a 240V circuit
  • Hum, buzz, or flicker from a dimmer or switch
  • Outdoor outlet missing for landscape lighting or holiday decor

Why outlets in one room stopped working

The lights in that room still work

That pattern often means the lighting and the receptacles are on different circuits, or a GFCI upstream is holding the receptacles off. Check a known bathroom, garage, or outdoor GFCI reset before assuming the breaker is the whole story. If nothing labeled feeds that room, stop and call.

The breaker looks on

A tripped breaker can sit between ON and OFF and still look on from a few feet away. If you can identify the breaker, move it fully OFF, then ON, one time. If it won't stay on, or you cannot tell which breaker it is, leave the panel closed and call.

Only one wall is dead

Receptacles on one wall are often daisy-chained. A loose backstab or a failed device can drop everything downstream of it. That is a diagnosis for a licensed electrician, not a faceplate-off DIY. Do not pull outlets to inspect the splices.

A GFCI in another room will not reset

A GFCI can protect outlets in bedrooms, living rooms, and garages from a bathroom or kitchen device. If it will not reset, unplug what is on that circuit and try once. Repeated trips or a unit that feels warm are a stop-and-call.

Outlets & Switches the network covers

These calls come in under a lot of different names, and the electricians we connect you with handle all of them across San Diego County: outlet installation, GFCI outlet installation, USB outlet installation, dimmer switch installation, smart switch installation, and AFCI installation. Describe the job in whatever words make sense to you when you call, and the operator sorts out the actual scope before anyone is dispatched.

Common Outlet and GFCI Installation questions

How much does it cost to add an outlet in San Diego?

Adding an outlet to an existing circuit runs $185 to $325 for most locations. Adding a new dedicated circuit (kitchen appliance, garage tool, bathroom) runs $475 to $850 depending on the panel-to-outlet distance and whether walls are accessible from above or below. Flat-rate quote before we start work.

Why does my GFCI keep tripping?

Three usual causes: a real ground fault on the circuit (something downstream is leaking current), a worn-out GFCI past its 7–10 year lifespan, or the wrong wiring at install (line and load reversed). The pros we send diagnose and fix in one visit on most jobs.

Can you install smart switches?

Yes. The pros we send install Lutron Caseta, Leviton Decora Smart, Kasa, and any UL-listed smart switch. Most need a neutral wire in the box (older homes sometimes don't have one), which we'll check before quoting.

Do you install USB outlets?

Yes, both USB-A and USB-C combination outlets, in any room. Most installs are a direct swap-out of the existing outlet and finish in 20 minutes.

Can you upgrade two-prong outlets to three-prong?

Yes, with a real grounding solution: either pulling a ground from the panel, or installing a GFCI outlet labeled 'No Equipment Ground' which is code-compliant for two-wire circuits. We pick the right approach per outlet, not a one-size-fits-all answer.
