What do homeowners ask about EV Chargers?

How much does it cost to install a Level 2 EV charger in San Diego?

Most installs land between $850 and $1,800. Cost depends on distance from the panel, exterior vs. interior conduit, and whether the panel has capacity. Long runs through finished walls, exterior weather-rated installs, or panel upgrades add to the base. We quote flat-rate after a free site visit or photo review.

Do I need a 200-amp panel for an EV charger?

Not always. Many homes on 125-amp or 150-amp service can add a Level 2 charger using a load calc and load-management EVSE that throttles based on the rest of the house. We run the numbers before quoting. If a panel upgrade is needed, we quote that too.

Can I claim a rebate for the EV charger install?

SDG&E offers EV charger rebates that change yearly, currently up to $1,000 for income-qualifying households, smaller amounts for everyone else. The federal 30C tax credit covers 30% of install cost up to $1,000 for residential. We give you the receipts and breakdown to file. We don't file on your behalf.

Hardwired or plug-in (NEMA 14-50)?

Hardwired is safer at higher amperage (40A+), required by code in some installs, and looks cleaner. Plug-in is slightly more flexible if you move the charger. We default to hardwired for 48A+ installs and let you pick for 32–40A.

How long is the install?

Most installs take 3 to 5 hours from arrival to charger live. Exterior installs, long conduit runs, or installs requiring a sub-panel run a half-day to full day. We give you an exact time window when we schedule.

Our 1960s Federal Pacific panel was flagged by our home inspector. Bright Pro pulled the permit, swapped it for a 200-amp modern panel, and had us back online by end of day. Insurance premium dropped the next month.

Panel Upgrade Encinitas

Installed a Tesla Wall Connector on a 60-amp circuit with a clean conduit run along the garage wall. Helped me file the SDG&E rebate paperwork. Charges my Model Y from empty overnight with no issues.

EV Charger Install Poway

We bought a 1940s craftsman with knob-and-tube wiring. Bright Pro rewired the whole house over 5 days without tearing up any plaster walls. Crew cleaned up every night. Insurance dropped the exclusion.
